Hashem Dezhbakhsh received his Ph.D. in Economics from Ohio State University and joined Emory University in 1992. He has taught courses in doctoral, bachelors, masters, and executive MBA programs. He has also held various administrative positions in academia including department chair, program director, and interim deanship.
Dezhbakhsh is the recipient of several awards including Emory University’s Williams Distinguished Teaching Award, Emory University’s Cuttino Award for Excellence in Mentorship, Chief Economist Award for Empirical Contributions to GAO Research, Ohio State University’s Outstanding Teaching Award, Sigma Nu fraternity’s Favorite Faculty Award, and Phi Beta Kappa recognition for excellent teaching. Dezhbakhsh’s articles have appeared in leading economic journals, and his research has been cited by the Supreme Court of the United States in their issued opinions as well as in Newsweek, USA Today, Economist, New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Sun-Times, Chronicle of Higher Education, and Atlanta Journal Constitution, among others.
Dezhbakhsh has also conducted research on financial markets, stock market volatility, and bubbles as well as foreign exchange markets. He has made public presentations and also addressed Emory University Board of Visitors on issues related to stock market volatility and the financial crisis of 2008. Dezhbakhsh has appeared as an expert on many radio and news stations including NPR, CNN, FOX News Channel, ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX affiliates in Atlanta. He has worked as an economic consultant for U.S. Government Accountability Office, The Carter Center, Mexican Congress, R.J. Reynolds, Pfizer, Drug Emporium, and African Export-Import Bank, among others.
