Ben F. Johnson III is the retired managing partner of Alston & Bird, serving as managing partner from 1997 to 2008, after a career as a commercial litigator that began in 1971. He is the immediate past Chairman of Invesco, Ltd., a S&P 500 company and a leading independent global investment management company operating in more than 20 countries with approximately $1 trillion in assets under management. He served on Invesco’s board from 2009 to 2019.
Johnson served on Emory University’s Board of Trustees for18 years and was the chair from 2000 to 2013. He recently completed his 33-year service as chair of the Governing Board of Woodward Academy, one of America’s largest independent schools. He continues to serve on Woodward’s Board and on its Executive Committee. He is the past chair and member of the Executive Committee of the Board of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, serves on the Board of The Carter Center, and is a Trustee of the Charles Loridans Foundation.
In 2010, The American Lawyer awarded him its second Law Firm Distinguished Leader Award in its Lifetime Achievers 2010 issue. Emory University awarded him a Doctor of Laws degree in 2014.
