Nassir Mokarram joined Emory Investment Management in 2025. A trained bioengineer and polymer scientist, Dr. Mokarram completed his graduate training at Georgia Tech, where he pioneered immunomodulatory biomaterials for neural tissue repair, followed by a prestigious fellowship at Stanford University in Biodesign Innovation. Dr. Mokarram held academic appointments at the Department of Neurosurgery at Emory University and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. Beyond academia, Dr. Mokarram is a passionate healthcare technology advocate; he has contributed to the development of multiple medical technologies in both startups and large medtech firms, with his recent brain tumor treatment earning FDA Breakthrough Device designation. His experience extends beyond scientific research and entrepreneurship into venture investing where his expertise in early de-risking of medical technology assets for accelerated commercialization has positioned him as a thought leader in the university healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Dr. Mokarram received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and his M.S. in Nanotechnology from Amirkabir University of Technology.
