Cahill Mary Cahill, Vice President of Investments and Chief Investment Officer

Mary L. Cahill is Vice President of Investments and Chief Investment Officer of Emory University overseeing investments of all endowment, trust, operating, and employee benefit funds of the University and related medical facilities.

Prior to joining Emory, Mary was Deputy Chief Investment Officer of Xerox Corporation where she was responsible for developing, recommending and implementing investment alternatives for pension and savings plan assets in excess of $12 billion.  Mary was also Chief Investment Officer of the Xerox Canada pension plan.

 Mary has 30 years of investment experience with prior positions including Deputy Director of the Virginia Retirement System, Director of the SmithKline pension fund and pension management positions with BellSouth and Merck.  Mary has overseen internal equity portfolios, invested fixed income and futures portfolios, developed performance measurement systems, and designed investment options.  Mary has served as President of Pension Group East, President of Pension 21 and an executive member of the Financial Executive Institute’s Committee on Investment of Employee Benefit Assets.  She is a member of the NYSE Pension Managers Advisory Committee, a board member of the Emory Center for Alternative Investments, a board member of The Institute For Quantitative Research in Finance, a trustee of The Woodruff Arts Center, and a director of the Robert Toigo Foundation.  Mary has an MBA specializing in Finance from St. John’s University and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Nancy Avia, Operations Manager (Public Markets)

Nancy joined Emory Investment Management in 2005. Her responsibilities include investment analysis, performance measurement, and cash management. Previously, Nancy was a Senior Analyst for Delta Air Lines Benefit Trusts, assisting with the management of investments in the pension plan. Prior to joining Delta, she was an Assistant Account Manager at State Street Corporation with accounting and reporting responsibilities for a portfolio of mutual funds. Nancy holds an MBA from Georgia State University and a BS in Accounting from Providence College.

Baca

Eric Baca, Manager, Investment Analysis

Eric joined Emory Investment Management in 2008.  He is a manager on the Private Markets and Natural Resources Team currently focusing on natural resources and commodities while also supporting the broader team with market data analysis and database tools.  His prior experience includes working in the data analytics practice of a Big 4 accounting firm as well as asset-liability management at a large commercial bank.  He has an MBA from Rice University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University. He is a CFA charterholder.

Bilkey

Jocelyn Bilkey, Investment Analyst

Jocelyn joined Emory Investment Management in 2013 as an analyst on the Public Markets team.  Her responsibilities include analysis and monitoring of the market, asset classes, and portfolio manager performance within this segment of the portfolio.  She is a graduate of Emory University's Goizueta Business School with a BBA in Finance and Accounting.  Jocelyn is a CFA Level III Candidate.

Bull

Jason Bull, Director, Investment Analysis

Jason came to Emory Investment Management in 2008 from Goldman, Sachs & Co. where he managed assets for high net worth customers. His responsibilities at Emory Investment Management include performing research on investment strategies including domestic and international assets, equities and fixed income, hedge funds, and non-traditional strategies. He is an MBA graduate of Emory University's Goizueta Business School and received his BS in Mathematics and Economics from Eastern Michigan University where he was a varsity athlete. Jason is a CFA charterholder.

Cernilli

Mary Cernilli, Director, Investment Analysis

Mary joined Emory Investment Management in 2005. Her responsibilities at Emory Investment Management include performing research on investment strategies including domestic and international assets, equities and fixed income, hedge funds, and non-traditional strategies. Prior to joining Emory University she was Vice President of Trusco Capital Management responsible for managing over $1.0 billion in fixed income assets. She has a BS in Accounting from Long Island University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a CFA charterholder.

D'Amour

Christine D'Amour, Senior Director Investment Administration

Christie joined Emory Investment Management in May 2013.  Her responsibilities include leading the operations team in its daily administration and oversight of Emory’s investments.  She also plays a leadership role in Emory’s Operational Risk Management program, which includes operational due diligence and compliance.  Prior to coming to Emory, Christie was the Chief Operating Officer of Spider Management Company, the University of Richmond’s investment management company which is also an outsourced CIO provider for other endowments and foundations.  She was responsible for oversight of all non-investment activities within the firm. Christie has worked for Hofstra University, MSC Industrial Direct and Coopers & Lybrand in New York.  Christie holds a BS in Accounting from the University of Scranton.

Brad Demicco, Director, Private Markets

Brad joined Emory Investment Management in 2014.  His responsibilities include qualitative and quantitative research and investment underwriting within the Private Market and Natural Resources segments.  Prior to joining Emory, he was a portfolio manager at the Employees Retirement System of Texas where he was responsible for alternative investments across multiple strategies and geographies.  He previously held positions at Patriarch Partners and RPC where he focused on private equity and real estate investments and Xerox Global Services where he worked as a management consultant.  Brad received an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BBA from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia.

Fisher

Andrew Fisher, Managing Director of Public Markets

Andrew joined Emory Investment Management in 2008. His responsibilities include developing proposals for strategy considerations within the marketable segment of long-term assets and conducting qualitative and quantitative research. Prior to joining Emory, he was Vice President, Aetos Alternatives Management where he was responsible for coverage of hedge fund investments across multiple alternative strategies. His previous experience includes financial analysis and management for capital management firms. He is a graduate of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and the Stanford University School of Education where he received joint MBA and MA degrees. He graduated from Princeton University where he received a BSE in Civil Engineering and Operations Research. He is a CFA charterholder.

Kelley Gambrell, Operations Manager, Compliance & Reporting

Kelley joined Emory Investment Management in 2014.  Her responsibilities include keeping up with existing and developing regulatory and compliance issues affecting the department as well as managing  various reporting requirements.  Before joining Emory, Kelley worked for The Wendy’s Company (previously Wendy’s/Arby’s Group, Inc.)holding positions in Investor Relations as well as Financial Reporting.  Her main responsibilities included quarterly and annual SEC filings, quarterly earnings releases, Board of Directors presentations and communications with investors.  Prior to that, she was a Specialist in the Financial Reporting group at Delta Air Lines.  She began her career as an Associate in the Assurance practice at KPMG.  Kelley is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Master of Accountancy and B.S. in Business Administration specializing in Accountancy from Auburn University.

Greiner

Joe Greiner, Investment Analyst

Joe joined Emory Investment Management in 2012 as an analyst on the Private Markets and Natural Resources team.  His responsibilities include analysis and monitoring of the market, asset classes, and portfolio manager performance within this segment of the portfolio.  Before joining Emory, Joe worked for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as a portfolio associate in wealth management.  He began his career at J.P. Morgan Private Bank where he worked across a range of disciplines in investment management for ultra-high net worth clients.  Joe is a graduate of Emory University with a BA in Economics and History. 

Heald

Leah Heald, Operations Manager, Alternative Investments

Leah joined Emory Investment Management in June 2013.  Her responsibilities include managing the accounting, audit, tax, regulatory, and compliance related processes associated with Emory's alternative investments.  Previously, Leah was an Accounting Manager at Partnership Financial Consulting, LLC, providing accounting and administration services for a variety of investment partnerships.  Prior to joining PFC, she was a Senior Accountant at Ernst & Young.  Leah is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Master of Accountancy and BBA in Accounting from the University of Georgia.

Kupesiz

Hakan Kupesiz, Senior Investment Risk Analyst

As Senior Investment Risk Analyst, Hakan will be responsible for production and analysis of investment analytics that inform our team’s risk assessments and top-down investment views.  He is leaving an investment analytics-focused role at Gresham Investment Management, a New York-based firm that manages over $14 billion of client assets in diversified commodity investment portfolios.  Hakan will be returning to Emory Investment Management, having previously worked for one year as a Graduate Investments Intern while earning his MBA at Emory’s Goizueta Business School.  Prior to Emory, Hakan worked for 10 years internationally in engineering and management roles with multiple firms including Philips Electronics.  He holds a B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Orta Dogu Teknik University in Ankara, Turkey.

Kimberly Ledford, Director of Projects

Kimberly joined Emory Investment Management as Director of Projects in April 2012.  She is responsible for coordinating, planning, supporting and executing Emory Investment Management initiatives.  Prior to joining Emory, Kimberly was Vice President at Macquarie Group Limited in Chicago, Illinois, where she served as an executive officer for two of Macquarie’s real estate investment trusts.  Kimberly was also responsible for establishing the operational frameworks and managing ongoing operations for real estate funds and joint ventures.  Kimberly earned a Master of Accountancy from Auburn University, where she also earned a B.S. in Business Administration specializing in Accountancy.

Marcano

Tina Marcano, Administrative Assistant

Tina joined Emory Investment Management in August 2004. Her responsibilities include administrative support to the Investment Administrator, management of the team's calendar, contact database, travel schedules, itineraries, and expenses. Previously, Tina was an Administrative Assistant at an advertising firm, The Integer Group for five years. She attended Pace University in New York and Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia.  Tina has successfully completed Emory's Administrative Professionals Program.

McGuire

Zackery McGuire, Operations Manager (Private Markets)

Zackery joined Emory Investment Management in September 2013 as Operations Manager for Private Markets.  His responsibilities include investment analysis and performance measurement.  As a Performance Analyst with Emory Investment Management between 2007 and 2012, his primary responsibilities were investment analysis, performance measurement and reporting to support the endowment's investment and risk teams.  Prior to joining Emory in 2007, Zackery worked for Citigroup's Fund Administration business in Portland, ME.  He is a graduate of the University of Maine with a BS in Business Administration as well as Emory University's Goizueta Business School where he received his MBA.

Pickett

Melanie Pickett, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer

Melanie joined Emory Investment Management in August 2011 as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer.  She is responsible for investment operations, technology and systems, operational risk management, compliance and due diligence, investment/performance analytics & reporting, and other non-investment related business operations such as human resources, finance, vendor management, and project management.  Melanie joined Emory from her position as Executive Director at Morgan Stanley, where she spent over ten years focused on operations & technology and was responsible for leading several large strategic initiatives within the firm.  Melanie holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and an Executive Masters of Technology Management from both the Wharton School of Business and University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering & Applied Sciences.

Poland

Matthew Poland, Manager, Investment Analysis

Matthew joined Emory Investment Management in 2007. His responsibilities include analysis and monitoring of the market, asset classes and portfolio managers' performance, and development of recommendations for investment of assets. Matthew came to Emory from Trusco Capital Management, where he was a fixed income research associate. Previous employers include SunTrust Robinson Humphrey and Morgan Stanley. He has completed his MBA with a concentration in Finance from Georgia State University and graduated from University of Tennessee with a BS in Business Administration.  Matthew is a CFA Level II Candidate.

Sowell

Jeff Sowell, Executive Administrative Assistant

Jeff joined Emory Investment Management in 2009. He has more than 20 years experience with companies that include SouthTrust Bank and The Coca-Cola Company. His responsibilities include direct support to the Chief Investment Officer, managing office travel and coordinating office meetings and schedules. He is a graduate of Kennesaw State University.

Vollenweider Julie Vollenweider, Managing Director of Private Markets

Julie is responsible for the investment strategy, analysis, and manager selection within the Private Markets and Natural Resources portfolios. The Private Markets portfolio includes venture capital and private equity investments and Natural Resources is a diversified portfolio of energy, timber, real estate, and commodities. Prior to adopting this role in 2002, Julie joined Emory Investment Management in 2001 as Director of Investment Administration where she was responsible for portfolio administration, investment performance, and analytics. Julie previously was Director of Fiscal Planning and Management for Emory and has also held roles with other institutions in cash investment management, debt management, and credit analysis. Julie is a graduate of Emory University with a BA in Economics.

Wachob

Brian Wachob, Managing Director, Asset Allocation

Brian joined Emory Investments in 2005 after earning his MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He is responsible for asset allocation, risk management, quantitative research and portfolio analytics across all asset classes for the overall Endowment portfolio. Prior to joining Emory, Brian interned in investment management at Crenshaw Financial Services in Durham, North Carolina and at Amajac Capital Management, a hedge fund in New Canaan, Connecticut. Previously, Brian worked as an engineer in new product development with Analog Devices in Wilmington, Massachusetts. He is also a graduate of Dartmouth College with dual degrees in Electrical Engineering and Liberal Arts.

Lu YanDirector of Investment Risk

Lu Yan heads investment risk management and related analytics efforts, focusing on market risk and return attribution, liquidity risk, counterparty risk and external-manager specific risk. His responsibilities also include analyzing hedging and overlay strategies and contributing to the due diligence research on systematic, quantitative or derivative-oriented strategies. Prior to joining Emory, he was Director of Risk Analysis at Global Endowment Management where he developed risk analytics framework and performed analysis for asset allocation and portfolio strategy. He previously worked for Wachovia Securities, Capital One and the Republic of Singapore Army. Lu graduated from Cornell University summa cum laude with BS in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering and from Stanford University with MS in Management Science. He is a CFA and FRM charterholder.
