Chief Investment Officer
Srinivas Pulavarti joined Emory Investment Management as the Chief Investment Officer in 2018. As CIO, Pulavarti is responsible for the oversight of all investment operations within EIM. From 2012-2018, Pulavarti was the President and CIO of UCLA Investment Company in Los Angeles, managing approximately $2.3 billion for UCLA Foundation and its affiliate organizations. Prior to UCLA, Pulavarti served roughly 7 years as President and CIO of Spider Management Company, an asset management affiliate of the University of Richmond. While there, he conceived and built the first successful outsourced CIO model in a university environment.
Totaling nearly 25 years of investment experience in managing assets for endowments, foundations, and pension funds in the U.S., Pulavarti also served as director and head of global investment strategy for Citigroup Pension Investments in New York, as director of investments at Johns Hopkins University, as portfolio manager and manager of investments at Lockheed Martin Investment Management Company, and as a senior fixed income and sovereign research analyst at Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry from Bangalore University in India, and a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Sterling Eaton joined Emory Investment Management as the executive assistant in 2020. Prior to Emory, Eaton worked at SecurAmerica LLC. She holds a bachelor’s of fine arts degree in Art Education from the University of Georgia. She is currently pursuing an MBA at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
Managing Director of Investments
Matthew Werner joined Emory Investment Management as a managing director of investments in 2018. Werner manages both the private and public equity portfolios, with a focus on credit and multi-strategy investments. Werner joined Emory from Spider Management Company, the investment office for the University of Richmond in Virginia, where he served as the director of credit, multi-strategy and emerging markets since 2005. Prior to Spider, he was a consultant at Barra, a financial market analytics provider. Werner holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from The Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business.
Managing Director of Investments and Portfolio Manager of Equities
James Edwards joined Emory Investment Management as a managing director of investments and portfolio manager of equities in 2018. Edwards joined Emory from UCLA Investment Company in Los Angeles, where he was an investment director and was involved in all aspects of managing the UCLA Foundation’s endowment portfolio. Prior to working in UCLA’s investment office, Edwards worked as an equities analyst, and was also a manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he performed consulting engagements for global technology, media and telecommunications clients. Edwards holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Finance and a master’s degree in Accounting from Indiana University, as well as an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, where he was a Student Investment Fund Fellow. Additionally, Edwards is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) charterholder, and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Director of Public Equities
Jocelyn Bilkey joined Emory Investment Management in 2013 as an analyst on the public markets team. Her responsibilities have grown to include investment research, monitoring, and due diligence across both the public and private portfolios. Bilkey is a graduate of Emory University’s Goizueta Business School with a BBA in Finance and Accounting, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
Director of Investments
Bo Williamson joined Emory Investment Management in 2019 as a director of investments. Prior to Emory, Williamson was a senior portfolio manager at San Francisco Employee’s Retirement System where he managed SFERS’ private equity portfolio. He has held similar roles at Siemens, where he managed private equity for their pension plans, and at Macquarie, where he invested in private equity on a discretionary basis for the bank’s clients. Prior to his private markets-centric roles, he was a multi-asset class investor at UBS and Credit Suisse. Williamson graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Economics and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
Associate Director of Public Equity
Hakan Kupesiz returned to Emory Investment Management in 2012, having previously worked for one year in 2008 as a graduate investments intern while earning his MBA at Emory’s Goizueta Business School. His responsibilities include analysis, performance monitoring, and due diligence on current and prospective investments. Prior to joining Emory, he held an investment analytics-focused role at Gresham Investment Management, a New York-based firm that manages over $14 billion of client assets in diversified commodity investment portfolios. Previously, Kupesiz worked internationally for 10 years in engineering and management roles with multiple firms including Philips Electronics. Kupesiz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Orta Dogu Teknik University in Ankara, Turkey and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
Associate Director of Investments
Adam Marchick joined Emory Investment Management as an associate director of investments in 2019. He has a diverse background in venture capital, most recently creating and leading Alpine.AI, pioneer of voice-enabled eCommerce, to a successful acquisition by Headspace. Prior to Alpine.AI, Marchick co-founded Kahuna, a software that helped define the mobile marketing automation market. In 2009 and 2004 respectively, Marchick worked as an associate for Bain Capital Ventures and Menlo Ventures. Marchick has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and an MBA from Stanford University.
Greg Bright joined Emory Investment Management in 2018 as an analyst on the private markets and natural resources team. His responsibilities include investment research, monitoring, and due diligence within both the public and private portfolios. Bright is a graduate of Emory University’s Goizueta Business School with a BBA in Finance and Information Systems and a minor in Physics.
Kenzie Middlestead joined Emory Investment Management in 2018. Prior to Emory, Middlestead worked at UCLA Investment Company. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography/Environmental Studies as well as a minor in English from University of California, Los Angeles.
Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer
Christie D’Amour joined Emory Investment Management in 2013. Her responsibilities include investment operations, technology and systems, operational risk management, compliance and due diligence, investment/performance analytics & reporting, and other non-investment related business operations such as human resources, finance, vendor management, and project management. Prior to Emory, D’Amour was the Chief Operating Officer of Spider Management Company, the University of Richmond’s investment management company. She was responsible for oversight of all non-investment activities within the firm. Her experience includes working for Hofstra University, MSC Industrial Direct and Coopers & Lybrand in New York. D’Amour holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Scranton.
Deputy Chief Operating Officer
Lorver Lentejas joined Emory Investment Management in 2019. He works collaboratively with the COO in providing hands-on leadership for investment operations and in building systems and infrastructure to support the investment team. Prior to Emory, Lentejas worked at UCLA for 10 years where he served as the Lead Accountant for the Foundation and more recently as the Chief Operating Officer for the Investment Company. He started his career as an auditor at Ernst & Young / Grant Thornton and later worked as Assistant Corporate Controller at Storm Industries. Lentejas holds a Bachelor’s of Accountancy from the University of the Philippines, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
Director of Compliance and Reporting
Kelley Gambrell joined Emory Investment Management in 2014. Her responsibilities include regulatory and compliance issues as well as managing various reporting requirements. Before joining Emory, Gambrell worked for The Wendy’s Company (previously Wendy’s/Arby’s Group, Inc.) holding positions in Investor Relations as well as Financial Reporting. Her experience includes working as a specialist in the Financial Reporting group at Delta Air Lines, as well as an associate in the assurance practice at KPMG. Gambrell holds a Master of Accountancy and B.S. in Business Administration specializing in Accountancy from Auburn University, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Director of Investment Administration
Leah Heald joined Emory Investment Management in 2013. Her responsibilities include managing the accounting, audit, tax, regulatory, and compliance related processes associated with Emory’s alternative investments. Previously, Heald was an accounting manager at Partnership Financial Consulting, LLC, providing accounting and administration services for a variety of investment partnerships. Prior to joining PFC, she was a senior accountant at Ernst & Young. Heald holds a Master of Accountancy and BBA in Accounting from the University of Georgia, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Director of Investment Operations
Nancy Labbe has been with Emory Investment Management since 2005. Her responsibilities include investment analysis, performance measurement, and cash management. Previously, Labbe was a senior analyst for Delta Air Lines Benefit Trusts, assisting with the management of investments in the pension plan. Prior to joining Delta, she was an assistant account manager at State Street Corporation with accounting and reporting responsibilities for a portfolio of mutual funds. Labbe holds a B.S. in Accounting from Providence College and an MBA from Georgia State University.
Director of Strategic Initiatives
Kimberly Ledford joined Emory Investment Management in 2012. She drives the identification, development and execution of Emory Investment Management’s strategic initiatives, and is responsible for conducting operational due diligence reviews of external managers. Prior to joining Emory, Ledford was Vice President at Macquarie Group Limited in Chicago, Illinois. She was responsible for establishing the operational frameworks and managing ongoing operations for real estate funds and joint ventures. Ledford holds a Master of Accountancy and B.S. in Business Administration specializing in Accountancy from Auburn University, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Investment Operations Manager
Katie Lahey joined Emory Investment Management in 2016. Her responsibilities include portfolio operations, investment reporting and cash monitoring. Prior to joining Emory, Lahey was a marketing campaign coordinator at Probitas Partners, a global fund placement firm in New York. She began her career as an executive assistant at The University of Chicago, Office of Investments. Lahey graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in Communications.
Investment Operations Analyst
Shenise Cox joined Emory Investment Management in 2018. Her responsibilities include preparing weekly cash flow projections, maintaining and reconciling performance returns, monitoring outstanding commitments and fees as well as processing monthly accruals. Prior to joining Emory, Cox was the accounting & operations manager at Moore Investment Group, LLC. She was responsible for controlling fundamentals and implementing corporate accounting policies and control procedures. Cox began her career at Capitol Special Risks, Inc. as a senior accounting specialist. She holds a BBA in Finance from Clark Atlanta University.
Senior Administrative Assistant
Tina Marcano joined Emory Investment Management in 2004. Her responsibilities include management of the team’s calendar, contact database, travel schedules, itineraries, and expenses. Previously, Marcano was an administrative assistant at The Integer Group, an advertising firm previously located in Atlanta. She attended Pace University and Kennesaw State University. Marcano has successfully completed Emory’s Administrative Professionals Program.
Francis Fernandes joined Emory University as an IT Desktop Consultant in 2012. He has been administering IT related tasks for Emory Investment Management since 2015. Additionally, Fernandes is responsible for creating software packages that are distributed to over 2000 computers across Emory University. Francis has over 15 years of IT experience and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
